Showing movies and building community

As mainstream viewing habits change, the role of film exhibitors has become that of crucial community space; NICE is here to ensure they remain part of Canada’s cultural fabric.

Film exhibition, from coast to coast

NICE is a network that includes captivating historic landmarks, beloved regional chains, retro drive-in theatres, mom-and-pop venues serving rural communities and so much more.

Since NICE informally launched in 2018, the community has grown to represent film exhibitors from Victoria to Charlottetown, Whitehorse to Dauphin, Montreal to Vancouver.

Brick and mortar forever

We are proud that year-round venues make up most of our members. Too often, cinemas are lost in the conversation between commerce and publicly-funded cultural projects. NICE members contribute significantly to their local communities in a multitude of ways, including:

  • Generating economic impact
  • Filling the role of cultural influencer; introducing local audiences to new stories and perspectives
  • Developing careers in arts and culture
  • Deepening community feeling and cohesiveness
  • Offering venues for local festivals, events, fundraisers and filmmakers
  • Hosting cultural experiences that enrich communities
  • Connecting neighbours in conversation and shared experience
